DIY Kids play kitchen

When I scored this kids play kitchen set for free. Yes, FREE I knew it was going to need a full makeover. I mean looking at this ahem *beauty*. As a neutral lover I couldn’t stand the idea of this many colors in my house. haha.  Give me ALLLLLL the black, white, gray and gold. I mean what other colors do you need? Seriously?

Okay back to the task at hand. Take a moment and admire the beauty that is the BEFORE.

It was bad you guys. I understand why they gave it away for free. Well loved was an understatement.

Enter lots of tender loving care.

First up was to take off all the hardware. Easy enough. I then painted each kitchen white. This probably helped transform them the quickest and helped me get a vision for the complete transformation.  I was able to just do two coats of paint. The biggest pain in a** was painting inside the kitchen sets. But hey, its done and it looks great.

To paint the kitchen white I just used a paintbrush. Although a roller probably would have been easier for the outside. I was in the midst of moving though and couldn’t find one.

Next up I spray painted the “sink” aka baking pan black. I was hoping to find something to replace it. My dream was a farmhouse kitchen sink, or something that resembled that. Buttttt I discovered finding a play kitchen sink is nearly impossible. So spray painted black baking pan it was.

Next up was applying the marble contact paper for the counters. Happy to say it was way easier than I thought. Highly suggest doing this on your DIY kids play kitchen. It completely transformed the kitchen. And for under $10 ($7.12 to be exact!) it was the biggest bang for your buck on this kids kitchen. My BFF joked my sons kitchen is going to be better than hers.

TIP FOR APPLYING MARBLE CONTACT PAPER: The marble contact paper is extremely sticky duh! So learn from me and I don’t cut it longer than you need and try and peel it off cause your paint WILL peel off. This is where you don’t wanna mess up and measure perfectly. In hindsight an exacto knife would have been perfect.

I also changed out the hardware. I knew I wanted gold hardware for his play kitchen. I was able to score these on amazon for under $15 for a set of five of them. Perfect size for little man.   Gold Handles: $15/5pk : Amazon

I did not reattach any of the knobs for the “oven” or sink. Just personal choice. I did however spray paint the sink faucet gold.

I knew I didn’t want to paint on the stovetop so I was able to find some vinyl stickers on etsy for the stovetop.  They are sold out of the one I have but have the red version HERE. Or you can get template for B&W printable decals  HERE.

And the final product. I was gifted a few of the kitchen items, and the others I found online and in store. Links all below.

Well what do you think? Would love to hear what you think of the transformation.
